Grant $30k to JBX CN to Support Chinese Builders on Juicebox

Synopsis

Give a $30k grant to JBX CN, a new project dedicated to fostering the development of the Chinese-language Juicebox builder community.

Motivation

The Chinese language Juicebox community is the single largest non-English community in the Juicebox Ecosystem.¹ Three of the 20 highest volume Juicebox projects to date appear to have originated in Chinese-speaking circles.²

JuiceboxDAO has thus far made only sporadic and limited efforts to connect Chinese speaking JBDAO members with the resources, guidance, and grant opportunities that it makes available to English speakers.³ Despite this inattention, Chinese-origin projects continue to be created on the protocol and a handful of bilingual members have crossed over to the English channels.

Chinese JBDAO members have clearly demonstrated their enthusiasm, creativity, and self-motivation by creating projects that demonstrate unique JB affordances like Redemption, booting these projects without consultation or financial support from JBDAO, and popularizing them in their native language communities.

The Chinese community represents an enormous and largely untapped opportunity for Juicebox protocol growth. With deliberate support and intelligent grant giving, JBDAO may be able to foster

  1. More quality project creation
  2. JB extension development (frontend and onchain)
  3. Discover new opportunities for partnerships, integrations, or memetic propagation

Zhape has taken the first step and created JBX CN, a Juicebox project that will bring together interested parties from the English and Chinese JB communities to explore practical opportunities for supporting the development of JBDAO Foundation aligned initiatives in the Chinese language JB community.

Twodam and Zhape spend time in Chinese Discord channels clarifying what’s happening in the English part of the community. So far there have only been three meetings between JB protocol devs and the Chinese community — most in 2021.
